I have a chance to buy a 2003 Windstar cheap, what were the weak spots on these especially engine/trans?
Clarification: Mileage and price on the one you are looking at?

Rust on frame parts (front and rear) and engine cradle.
Definitely pass: 2003 was the worst model year in that generation and you are looking at engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, and electrical issues on a now 19 year old vehicle:

Just pass. Easier to say what wasn't a weak spot. Just a laundry list of issues with those.
Weren’t the engines to the Windstar pretty decent? Or were they horrible?
they we the Essex engines.
The essex engines were the more reliable of Ford engines, along with the Vulcan.
