Hi Scotty I got a 2004 Dodge neon I was trying to get out of my driveway in the snow and then I noticed I seen smoke smell underneath my hood my radiator cap came loose and then my coolant reservoir was boiling can you tell me what that means or what could be the possible reason

I checked the coolant yesterday because I just bought the car and I know i put it on there tight

I checked the coolant out yesterday because I just bought the car and I know I put the radiator cap on tight


Radiator caps are flimsy and damage easily. If it looks old, buy a new one.
The gaskets eventually wear (even if they look fine) and will not hold enough pressure.
And without enough pressure, the coolant will begin to boil over.

When the engine is fully cooled down remove your cap and refill your radiator with coolant all the way to the top. Secure cap on and fill the reservoir to the proper level. Run the engine and make sure the heater works when its on MAX HEAT. Check your reservoir again for proper level.  You should check your coolant level in the reservoir as if it gets low...and their are no coolant leaks....you may have a blown head gasket but keep checking to make sure of the cars coolant status.
