2004 F150 AC/computer issue.

My truck has been at the mechanic for over three weeks for non working AC. I tried charging the air-conditioning myself but the compressor never kicked on. Bought a new compressor had it Installed by my father-in-law, and charged it but still the compressor wasn’t working. Brought it to the mechanic and he said the computer wasn’t sending power to the compressor but could get the compressor kicked on when he bypassed the relay switch. The mechanic ordered a rebuilt computer from a supplier and said the one he received won’t start my truck. Sent that one back and got another from the and the same thing happened. What computer is my mechanic talking about? The ECM? Rebuilt ECM‘s are available at the local auto parts store should I just tell them to buy one there? Why would a rebuilt computer not at least start the truck? Presumably the company that is rebuilding these computers should know whether or not they work before sending them out to customers. Is my mechanic just pushing me around or are computers that finicky? What do I do? I’ve been nice to the mechanic in conversation but really I’m heated over waiting so long and suffering through whom ever he is buying the computer from. I’m 43 and have never had my car in the shop for what is now almost a month. Thanks

Separate computers. ECM starts the truck. BCM controls body functions (like climate control)

I'm suspicious of your mechanic now too.

Take it to another shop or a dealer for a estimate.
