We just bought a 2004 Ford Expedition with 195K miles. It has the 5.4 Triton engine and the transmission was rebuilt last year. What maintenance should I do after I get it home? I was planning on flushing the cooling system, changing power steering fluid, and changing the oil. Is there anything else I should consider repairing/replacing right away? Summer is approaching quickly and I want to make sure we're good to go with pulling our camper.
Also, considering the transmission was recently rebuilt, is it safe to change the transmission fluid every 30K miles? It looks great right now so I'm not planning on messing with it for a while.
What you mentioned is a good place to start. Don't forget the rear differential gear oil. You didn't mention but if 4x4, front differential as well. Oh, yeah...how does the brake fluid look? If it's black you might want to get some new clean brake fluid in there as well, especially if you'll be towing a camper around.
