Hey Scotty. My 2004 Honda Pilot has been getting pretty ugly starts recently. But just recently the maintenance required light now goes on when I start it but it comes off the second it drives. The car drives like it’s new. Should I be worried? Right now it’s got 208,000 miles on it

When was the last time you changed your engine oil?

Maintenance Required vs. Check Engine

These are the two most confused lights are these two.

Check Engine means you need to pull out a scan tool or go check the engine. This comes on when there is a problem with the car.

Maintenance Required is more of a reminder that you need to do an oil change or basic maintenance. It usually comes on at timed intervals and is (supposed to be) reset each time you do an oil change. Often times it is forgotten to be reset. Nothing is usually wrong with the car, it just needs a little TLC in the form of basic maintenance.

If it bothers you and you want to reset the light, follow this video:

I have one of these on my "81 Toyota.  The dash light comes on every 30000 miles ( it's hooked up to the speedometer.)  Under the dashboard, there's a small white plastic box with a black switch in it.  You slide the switch to the other position and the light goes off for another 30000 miles.  It's practically meaningless.
