Hey Scotty. I have a 2004 Monte Carlo supercharger with 79,000 miles. My battery light would come while driving around town normally after about an hour of driving then the battery light would turn off about 5 minutes later while still in drive. I changed out the alternator, the alternator belt, and installed a brand new car battery. After all this my battery light will still come while driving, again normally after an hour in drive, now i just pull over and turn the car off and on and the battery light will disappear. Any idea what’s causing the battery light to come on????
Well you have some type of wiring problem. Tracy wiring power and grounds between the alternator and the battery and the ignition switch
I don't know if you have one but sometimes there is a charge light relay that goes bad and lights up the battery light. Check your alternator output at idle, should be steady at around 14.5 volts. If not, the alternator is defective.
You may have a faulty voltage regulator.
Check your grounds. You may have a frayed wire that's not grounding properly and movement of the car messes with it.
I did an alternator on a much older vehicle a month or so ago and the battery light still came on. I retraced the wires I messed with and noticed a slight break in the insulation on a ground. Air from the fan would move it around. I electrical taped it and the problem went away.
