2004 Tundra front brake issues and Thinkcar trouble

Topic starter

TRD 4WD model with 4.7L engine, automatic transmission and 115,000 km has recurring problem with warping rotors on front disc brakes. Replaced with 'OEM' pads & rotors and same thing happened after a couple of strong stops. Then purchased direct from Toyota  (mechanic said they were the same as other OEM he bought, but he did the job  again anyways at his cost). Same problem again. Rear brakes checked out fine. Is there a systemic problem with undersized front brakes on this truck? If yes, is there a retrofit option for better brakes without breaking (no pun intended) my budget?

Bought a Thinkcar scanner as you suggested but, despite the OBDll compliant sticker under the hood, would not read the VIN. It connected with the system but I felt I could not trust the readings I got so returned it. Is there another scanner option under $200 that I should consider?

Replaced timing belt etc following your advice. Belt was not cracked but mechanic said when the print on outer side of belt is worn away completely, should be changed anyways. Given it is 17 years old, glad I had the job done but curious if mechanic's comment makes sense to you.

For the brake issue, check the front suspension. For scan tools, there are plenty of companies make good ones including Autel.
