2004 VW Passat 2.6l runs for 20mins then dies… I think the car thinks it is an electric because will not start again for 4 hours. Tried multiple scan tools but will not scan. Replaced fuel filter, plugs, fuel relay, and fuel pump. Don’t know where to go from here, any help would be great!
Check the wiring on your OBD2 connector. Pay particular attention to grounds. If wiring there is OK but scan tools don't work you obviously are dealing with some kind of electrical failure.
When the car won't start try spraying some starting fluid into the intake and crank it. If the engine fires up you have spark but no fuel. If it doesn't fire up at all you have no spark.
Find out why it won't scan. Must be a fuel related problem - EVAP system, fuel injectors, etc.
