Current code: P0420

Hi, I am loving this Accord but I am worried about engine oil consumption problem.

Everything is fine, good idle, starts up a bit weak when it's cold but still starts up no problem after changing ECT1 sensor.

I've changed the engine oil to Pennzoil full synthetic 0W20 Platinum 1,800Km ago.

When I've checked the dipstick recently, it was below MIN mark. When I changed the oil, it was near MAX mark.

There isn't a drop of leak, and I've added about 900ml of same engine oil but I can still see it's gradually consuming the engine oil after a week.

What should I do?

Probably burning the oil up in the combustion chamber. Worn piston rings is to be expected after 300k kms though... it will probably run just fine burning oil for long time as long as you keep the oil topped up.

The p0420 can be caused by this as well.. the burnt oil will soot up your catalytic converter and not operate at full efficiency.

@cjbman P0420 was there way before this, and it wasn't burning oil before the oil change. So should I be worried in this case of oil burning suddenly started? Should I just keep topping off the oil and forget about this?

That is quite strange it only started right after the oil change. You might just go back to using regular semi synthetic high milage or conventional and see if it goes back to normal.

It was also Pennzoil 5W20 full synthetic before this and I saw Honda now recommends 0W20 for this engine so I've switched to that. I might have to go back if it persists.

Doesn't Honda take 5W20 weight oil? I think you are from Canada so went down on the weight but at that milage it's really not a good idea. Try switching back to 5W20. Next if you had always used 0W20 you may also have a clogged PCV valve. Try to clean it with carb cleaner or soak it in some brake cleaner

@santhosh08 Honda recommends 0W20 according to dealerships' chart. But yes, this engine has significant mileage and I think it's showing now from oil change. PCV valve is already replaced but I'll have to switch back to 5W20 soon.
