Hello, We have a PT Cruiser that's been sitting for about 4 years, as it's not operable as there is an issue with the engine cylnders. It's been some time but basically needs a new used or rebuilt engine. To do that, I was wondering what else would be needed on top of the rebuilt engine add considering it's been sitting to get an idea of cost. Rebuilt engine, added parts (from sitting), and labor.
Thanks!
How many miles on the car itself?
Hello, The milage is 97659. Called last place it was seen and they said it was a Clynder misfire, and recommended replace engine.
Do you really like the car or something? My friend that is quite a good mechanic, and not the type to rant about a poorly built car, went on a rather long rant about PT cruisers and how annoying and expensive they are to work on, and how much he hates them. Just hate to see you throw money away, unless you just really like it. Scotty has made several videos on them, and he yells about how bad they are too.
Hello, When I got the car way back I didn't know King Scotty 😉 I didn't really buy the car for the engine, rather the reto look. Did a bunch of custom stuff on it, which is why I was trying to see if there wasn't a too expensive route to correct.
No, get rid of it without throwing more money into this money pit.
This vehicle is not worth the money to fix it.
Hello, Yes, pretty much most places I called advised it's a money pit. Will probably have to have it picked up to take away as HOA don't care if you have a non operable car in your assigned space.
Not worth fixing. Those were terrible cars and you'd be spending more than it is is worth to repair it.
Take the money you were going to buy an engine with and buy something built better.
Hello, copy that. Not looking to buy another car at this time. Main car is a 2010 Lexus RX 350. Thank you!
Getting an engine rebuilt regardless of the manufacturer is going to cost at least $1000. If you want to, you could try to find an engine at a junk yard but you need to do a compression test to make sure that the motor is functioning and operating correctly.

What is the actual code that pops up?
Hello, I was thinking getting another engine rebuilt, vs rebuilding the existing. Would that be a faster solution? Time is an issue as HOA is trying to tow the car from our assigned spot, as rules state has to be operable and registered.
The faster solution would be the junk yard option but you'd need to do a compression test on the engine to make sure everything is functioning correctly.
