Should I buy this 2005 Toyota RAV4?

Family friend has a 2005 toyota rav4 with 86k miles on it. Asking $8000. Is this price high for a 18 year old car? Is the low miles too good to be true? Would get a pre-approved inspection of course, but is there anything more to look at while test driving? Thanks

Family friend

Generally a bad idea to buy any high value asset from friends/family.

Yes, see here - https://www.carcomplaints.com/Toyota/RAV4/2005/

If you really need another enemy, buy this car.

What would be a decent price for something like this assuming car passes inspection?

For an 18-year-old RAV4? Even with the low mileage I'd say half the $8000 asking price, and that's being generous due to the used car market still being crazy. I'd want to verify the mileage and make sure the a mechanic gives it a clean bill of health after a thorough inspection. (A lot can happen to a vehicle in 18 years even if miles are low.)

A thorough inspection to me must include a compression test, dry and wet and a leak down test as well.
