A place out of town has a 2006 5.9 2500 Cummins up for sale. 6 speed manual, has new batteries, new clutch, and new injectors, all stock. 335,000 on the motor, pictures I saw it looks great and frame only has some minor surface rust here and there. They want $13500 for it I’m thinking $9,700 cash if my diesel guy gives me the thumbs up. Everything considered IF this truck has overall been maintained at what mileage should I start considering a rebuild? (I know the 5.9 is a strong freaking motor and most I’ve seen on the farms and ranches are hitting the 550k mi range and still clacking just fine). I also know it’s really not super expensive to rebuild a 5.9 considering their popularity I priced out a few places and it’s going to be about $4k for the rebuild. You think I should jump on this or what?

They are great motors but 13,500!!! No way for 335,000 miles even though they are great engines other things wear after that many miles. if you can get it cheaper and it checks out go right ahead it can be a great truck if you take care of it.
