2006 Ford Ranger Transmission Question

So I have a 2006 Ford Ranger 4.0 Auto 4x4.

When I initially start the vehicle and put into drive. The transmission doesn't want to go.. So I go back into park, then reverse. It shifts to reverse. Then I can go into all gears fine.

If truck has been running, no issues. It's when it sits. Transmission fluid looks full, nice and pinkish red. No burning smell or discoloration.

I had the shifter cable adjusted as it was very tight. That was about a month ago.

Thanks for your time 🙂

When was the last time the trans fluid and filter were changed on this 15 year old vehicle?

Did this start before or after you had the tension on the linkage adjusted? My 1999 Ranger wouldn't fully go into Park sometimes and make it a pain to start or get the key out. Wiggle the shifter so you can see where it goes from below and tighten the screw underneath the dash on the linkage again and see if that helps. It fixed my issue.

Hi! So it's hard to say. It's a one owner truck. It has 80,000 original miles. Seems to be overall well maintained. No burning smell from transmission fluid and seems rather new. The level is full.

I appreciate your time and Merry Christmas!

I'm the second owner now. Sorry!
