Why does my car make a tapping noise

I have a question my 2006 galant es is making a tapping noise with running. Oil is full. I've checked compression in all cylinders and they all exceed 180psi. The spark plugs were good. I don't know how to find where it's coming from or what to do. Car has 150,000miles on it. Noise is noticeable at idle and sounds like it goes away when ur rev the engine higher rpms after 1200rpm. What can I try to do?

2006 mitubishi galant es with 2.5L 4 cylinder engine.

What can I try to do?

You can try to use a mechanic's stethoscope to pinpoint the source of the noise.

Thank you! I believe I've found the issue. It's the flywheel cover . Apparently it was rubbing on the flywheel and tapping. I removed the cover started the car up and noise is gone

Ah, that's a good one, glad you found it!
