Hi there Scotty.
I have a 2006 5-speed manual Subaru legacy wagon that stalls while moving when I press the clutch pedal.
There are 237,853 km on it.
To my detriment I have been ignoring an ER-HC warning above the digital odometer since i didn't have the means to fix it at the time......This was the start....eventually the check engine soon came on.....and the parking break warning....and the abs light....and the cruise light is always flashing.
I was told that the ER-HC problem was most likely computer related and that the Subaru dealer was the only one that could fix it. Also I was told that I would basically have to get the thing safetied if I brought it to a dealer to be fixed.
The previous problems with the car were.....
1. Exhaust replacement
2. alternator replacement
3. front wheel ball bearing replacement
4. Brake fluid leak(Probably related to the ball bearing)
It has also burned oil for about the past 5 years.
So the current problem I noticed on my way home is that I was in third gear I pressed the clutch to gear down and the engine and power steering turned off. The clutch also squeaks when I depress it.
This question will probably put me on the short bus but is there any reason to fix this and hope that a crash happens and I can purchase a used vehicle for nothing....or should I bite the bullet and find a new car now?
P.S. I luckily have inherited some money so I can afford to pay about $15,000 to $20,000 CAD.
I meant an economic crash not an insurance scam crash.....wasn't thinking when I posted it.
Whatever else is wrong the oil burning indicates the engine is worn out. I'm surprised it hasn't blown head gaskets. I sure would not put any more money into that thing.
That's what I figured. Looks like I'm heading to the dealer.
Thank you for the reply.
