2006 Toyota corolla with 163000 miles automatic. I was driving and the transmission won't engage, I towed it home, then checked the transmission fluid level which was low went to Toyota got 2 quarts then topped it up. still won't engage, so I checked the shifter cable bushing it was ok, but I bought one extra from Toyota just in case, next morning the transmission engaged but only for a minute then it disengaged again, so checked the linkage under the bonnet which was rusty (new york and new jersey car) then spayed it, then it engaged for a few minutes then disengaged again.

I'll try your transmission is kaput and it needs a new one knowing how things rest up there it's probably not worth fixing but if you do you might want to just try a used unit
