Hi Scotty,
I have a 2006 AWD Toyota Highlander with a starting issue. I originally had a bank 1 catalytic convert error code and tried your lacquer thinner trick twice. During the second attempt with lacquer thinner the starting issue started. The staring issue is it start after 1-2 minutes when the starter is engaged, before the lacquer trick it started mediately. The Highlander has about 168,500 miles on it and runs great other wise. My plan is to run Shell 93 octane for four tanks before I buy a fuel pressure testing kit. My though on the long start condition is the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel pump is faulty? Do you think replacing the regulator should be don or since the car has 168,500 I should replace the fuel pump?
My second question is in regards to the catalytic converter (cat). After two attempts for the lacquer thinner I the cat it is bad and needs to be replaced. Amazon has them for around $150 where AutoZone and RockAuto are considerable more. Is there a brand I should be looking for and ones to stay away from?
For the starting issue, you should change the fuel filter (if you have nor done it yet) and then check the fuel pressure. Regarding the cat, if you are not able recover it, you should buy OEM.
