Hi Scotty. I have a 2007 Ford Explorer with only 90,000 miles and I know in some of your other videos you say to change the trans fluid between 60 and 75 thousand miles so is it still ok to do if there's 90 thousand on it? Shifts pretty good still for the most part except maybe 1st to 2nd a little bit of a jerk.
Do NOT flush. Only do a drain and fill with a filter change if possible. It's fine to change it now at only 90k miles. Would you rather not change it and risk the transmission down the line or just change it now while it's still pretty young? I'd change it now.
Ok. What is the recommended mileage on any car to have a drain and fill of the transmission fluid? 75,000? 60,000? Or does it depend on car?
It depends on your manufacturer's interval, but if you can't find it usually it's best to change it every 50k-60k miles for the best chance of maximizing the life of the transmission.
The owners manual says 150,000 miles
@normanmd23
That's a ridiculously long interval...go with every 60k miles.
Depends on the condition of the fluid. If its good, then do a drain+fill of the fluid & change the filter.
Ok. But, what if the fluid is bad? Still do a drain and flush?
I honestly don't know, hopefully someone else can help you with this. If its bad, it is a risk because the transmission is used to the clutch material's friction in the fluid...
