Hello, I inherited a 2007 Lexus GS350 from my father almost 4 years ago. The car had under 200,000 miles, around 180,000 I believe when I received it, and there were no known issues at the time, besides a very slight burning of oil. No leaks. Over time, the car began to burn more, and more oil. I would take the car in for normal service oil and filter change every 5,000 miles. The car as of today burns about a quart of oil every 400 miles! Also, recently, the vehicle once warmed up, would make a minor rattling noise from the motor at idle. The struts are completely blown at this point, which with labor would be over a $3,000 job! This would include new front tires and alignment, the outer tread of the tires is completely bald from the strut issue. The car has been extremely enjoyable for me and it pains me to see the state it is currently in, I fear that the piston rings are the reason for the burning oil issue. The vehicle as is would not be worth over $4,000 with the issues it has, and for me to fix it, I would be spending more than the dang thing is worth right now. Any advice on where to go from here? Should I try and put money into the motor then sell it? I’m racking my brain figuring out what would be best.
Change the PCV valve and see if that helps the oil burning problem.
