Hello Scotty,
Im looking to buy a 2007 Toyota Solara with 200,000 miles on it from a used car dealer. It has an automatic 5 speed transmission along with a 6 cylinder engine (3.3L V6 24V MPFI DOHC). Im sorta wondering if it would be worth the buy and my biggest concern is that its past 200k miles already. Are these cars known for lasting beyond that point? Thank you.
It could definitely go further but 200k is still very late in a cars life so depending on price and how long you realistically want it to last you is the real question
Depends on price but they are excellent could last a lot more than that.
How much are they asking for it? That is a very durable engine and transmission combination - it can easily keep going for much longer if it's been taken care of. That 3.3L V6 has a timing belt so if it has not been changed, you will have to budget that in - it might be a helpful point to make to help knock some money off the price. Make sure you have an independent mechanic check it out before you put down any money, even if the dealer tells you it's in great shape (because of course they will tell you that).
they want $4700. i think you are right. my instincts keep telling me no even though its the most beautiful one ive seen under 5 grand yet. Thank you!
4700 is way overpriced.
My friend has one and likes it. How much is it? I think you will be fine with that one. As long as it has a good price.
Obviously any v6 with that kind of mileage will need more to be maintained more and problems will start occuring from engine wear and tear. But, Toyota's 3.3 V6 is an amazing v6 and they can still go for a longer time than that, but I would not buy a car with 200,000 miles because it means that they are really worn out with the engine, transmission, suspension components, axles, etc... If it was taken care of very well and is relatively cheap, the solara might not be a bad beater car.
im guessing you are right. My emotions saw a nice red convertible driving topless down the road i let it cloud my judgement. $4700 sounds like too much right now. ill save up for a nice corolla instead. thanks for answering
