Hey I am looking at a 2007 Subaru Outback with a manual transmission and it has 156,000 miles on it. The problem that I am experiencing is a screeching noise when I accelerate but as soon as I let off it goes away. What could this be, and is it an easy fix? Thanks!

You should figure out where the nose comes from. Does it do only when you drive or it also does when you are in neutral?

Check condition of the fan belt, it could be worn and slipping. Of more concern is that vehicle is in the age range where Subarus were experiencing head gasket problems. If it still has the original head gaskets I'd pass on it. (At 156K miles either the gaskets are likely to blow soon or they have already been replaced.)
