Hi Scotty, I am on a mission to find a first car for my grandson, he is 20 years old , he saved enough money for this car, what do you know about a Acura RDX AWD Turbo with 200K miles, automatic, loaded, 4cylinder, zero rust, brand new brakes, rotors, fresh oil change full synthetic private party, $3500.00, if this is not a good selection please advise of another, or a small list. Thanks Scotty watch you all the time you are great!

High mileage and prone to high maintenance/repair costs. I would say go with a Honda or Toyota; good quality cars, lower cost of repairs, less expensive than luxury names such as Acura or Lexus, and usually lower insurance (at least this is true where I live).

I would pass. That RDX is way up there in terms of mileage and the turbo is bound to go out. I would suggest finding a non luxury vehicle such as a Toyota or Honda with lower mileage, but still at a reasonable price. However, good luck finding one because used car prices have spiked due to inflation.

Ok RDX is a good SUV but I would pass on that car at that mileage, things are gonna break and they can get expensive to repair. Look at a NA Acura SUV or sedan or consider looking into the portfolios of Toyota, Honda, or Lexus.

The Honda K engine is pretty good. My only concern is the turbo going out. I would much prefer a naturally aspirated engine if at all possible.

I have more direct experience with Honda than their luxury counterparts. I know the stereotype is the luxury counterparts usually cost more to maintain, but if it the main components are similar to the CRV or should be ok to maintain. I am making assumptions, I don’t know for sure how much similarity the two cousins have.

If that’s the only option within your (grandson’s) budget, have it thoroughly inspected by a trusted professional mechanic, to check what condition it’s in.

If the mechanic says the engine or transmission are on its last legs, then look elsewhere.

$3500 isn’t much in the present used car market, but see whats out there.

What are the other available options, within your budget?

They are good cars sbut realize that the one you consider has lots of miles and being a turbo chagred engine, you might end up spending a lot on repairs. Alos realize that Acura is considered to be a luxury car and the parts are not cheap. If I were you, I would look for other options.
