I hope your morning is going well. My dad referred me to you, he said you are awesome! I have an automatic 2008 Ford Escape with 180,000 miles. The trouble I am experiencing is my truck engine revs a lot. At the time it's doing this, I notice the RPM may jump from 2 to 4 and then back down. Sometimes it doesn't go in to reverse as well. What could this be?

Your transmission may be dying. Does it have enough fluid? When is the last time it was serviced?
It hasn't been serviced in a while. The last time my oil was checked a month ago, they said everything looked good.
What is "a while"? At 180,000 miles the transmission fluid should probably have been changed at least 3 or 4 times, along with the filter if applicable, by now to keep it in good condition. If that vehicle has a transmission dipstick check the condition of the fluid to see if it's burnt or gritty.
