Hyundai makes lower quality vehicles and though mechanically better back then, they still have their fair share of odd issues that never end so I would not buy it. Also realize that these cars aren't worth much. When buying a car that old, its a good idea to check out the KBB trade in value tool and not be far off it (private party and set to buying cars is usually inflated). The trade in range is $1700-$2500, and pretty realistic private party value around $3500. I wouldn't pay a dime more than 3000, if that. Its a 14 year old car at this point.

When it comes to common problems, engine issues are given with the 2.7 V6 engine. The most common issues I found was "Fuel Level Sensor Failed," and complete engine failure. Many engine complaints were filed to the federal government's website NHTSA, and 2007-2009 had an high amount of  recalls of many types. Repairpal complaints show the most commonly reported issue is about the engine as well.

Going off of all this, I do not think that this vehicle is a good buy. If you do want to look into this vehicle, have your trusted mechanic do a pre-purchase inspection on it to make sure the mechanical shape is good and you won't have any suprises. Though luck with that on a Hyundai.

As for other choices, you might want to consider the Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot from the mid/late 2000s.
