if it has the 2.7L V6 engine it can last a while. However, if there is no record of when the timing belt was replaced, plan on having it replaced. Problems I'm familiar with include the purge valve for the charcoal canister getting contaminated and causing the check engine light to come on. This is usually due to overfilling of the gas tank. With this vehicle it is best not to add any additional fuel after the pump automatically stops pumping fuel. The purge valve can be replace but can be a bit of a pain to get to on the V6. Also, the V6 engine does not get as good of gas mileage as v6 engines of similar size in other brands. Look for a leak in the high pressure hose going from the pump to the rack and pinion unit. This seems to be a common problem. After market replacement hoses may use a different size fitting so the metal pipes may also need to be replaced. If it's an AWD model look for leaks at the transfer case. If the front half shafts have been replace with aftermarket units they may not fit quite right and cause a leak at the seal on the transfer case. Listen for leaks around the exhaust flex pipes. On AWD models listen for roaring noise coming from the rear of the car. This could be a bearing going bad in the front/rear lockup differential. This unit is electronically controlled and is located directly in front of the rear differential. Parts for this unit are not available. The entire unit must be replace at high cost. However, there is a youtube video on where to get a replacement bearing and how to replace it of you want to do it yourself. This generation Sportage can go 200-250K miles if well taken care of.
