Hello, I'm interested in buying a land Rover sport supercharged for about 12k from a used car dealer. Mileage shows around 80k. Interior is clean and no leaks or visible wear... I put a scanning tool that's about 60-70 at auto zone and no codes.. does it seem like a good buy still?
NO! Any Land Rover from the 80s and up is an endless money pit. You have to go back to the 60s for the good ones where they could barely get out of their own way but they were solid as hell and they can run forever.
You are talking about a Range Rover Sport that's 13 years old and supercharged. The engines won't hold up over time, air suspension is gonna fail every time (and still does on the late model Land Rovers), the electronics are gonna go haywire. It's typical on English cars.
Buy a Lexus LX or a GX if you value your money and want a luxury off-roader. That Range Rover Sport will bankrupt you in the short term.
No, it’s best to own any JLR product with a warranty (OEM only, not third party). They are money pits outside of warranty and not worth the hassle. Now if you are someone like Car Wizard who understands these vehicles inside and out, works on everything himself (and not go to dealer or JLR specialist ), and knows where to get parts at wholesale prices - then that would be a different story. Otherwise, just stay away. And you know Scotty would say to stay away as well!
One of the worst vehicles ever made. Even worse from a used car dealer.
