2008 Lexus LS460 Strut Mount Rattle

Hello Scotty,

Love your Youtube content and watch all your videos.  I bought an '08 LS460 2 years ago with just under 42K miles on it for $16,000 to do road trips to see my parents who live 200 miles away and my granddaughter, who lives 300 miles away and have put 50k miles on it since buying it.  I did my research and knew about the brake booster and weak front suspension and have replaced both.  My problem: {black}:scared: the shop that replaced the front control arms also replaced the original struts with new KYB struts, which was fine, but the driver's side (only) started rattling at low speeds. They replaced the problem strut, with the same result; and just yesterday replaced it again with an OEM part from Lexus, and you guessed it...same result.  Many years ago, I had the same problem with a '97 Camry that no one could fix.  I really love this car, sticky dashboard and all, but it has become extremely annoying to drive.  My mechanic has not charged me a penny for the strut work to date.  I hope you can help!!!

Do this be air suspension? Try this form. They seem to have isolated the problem being in defective bushings if not the struts themselves as OEM and aftermarket air suspension seem to both have this issue. If not air suspension, then I'd say have your tech check out other rubbers. Best of luck.

No air suspension.  Don't need them headaches.  Thanks for the response to my first question on Scotty's forum.

He did show me that there is considerable play between the threaded strut top post and the opening in the strut mount. He was going to explore welding the opening shut and drilling the hole to fit snug on the post.

Anyone think that will work?
