Hey Scotty, I Have A 2008 Pontiac G6 With 190,000 Miles. What's The Best Oil For This Car With High Mileage?
Hey
I used to work at an oil change place I saw all the oils that came in.....
Two best I would use
Castrol GTX 10 30. High mileage can't hurt either
MOBIL ONE NON synthetic (if you can afford it)
Do not use fram oil filters! Best ones wix
Just my two cents Alex
Aight Man 👍I Appreciate It
any synthetic oil that meets the specifications in your manual. You're not going to notice any differences between them.
Without knowing the history of the car..... Synthetic is pointless for a car that's run regular oil... The damage is already done.
Change it often.... With a decent brand, you get what you pay for.
Again just my two cents
Cheap oil after 5000....black runny water like.. Useless
Decent oil.... Still looks and feels like oil 🛢
Quacker state.... Yellow like varnish
Seen it all.... 😅
I disagree. I believe that every engine can benefit from synthetic oil, thanks to it's superior stability over a greater temperature range.
My shop uses Mobil 1, mostly full synthetic for the majority of what we do.
All of the advice mentioned here has been good. Joe is right. Any engine, whatever the mileage, will benefit from using Synthetic oil. If it is a 200k engine that has never used it before, it can still see some benefits.
However, Alex is also correct in that you do not want to swap to Synthetic in a car that is high mileage and has only been fed regular its whole life. The reason is not because it isn't beneficial though.
Synthetic oil runs thin and if you have an old car that's been running regular forever, switching to synthetic can cause gaskets to start showing leaks, etc. because I'm telling you that stuff finds ALL the little cracks and openings in rubber. Regular oil is a bit thicker and doesn't tend to really leak until your rubber gaskets are really, truly shot. So the downside is swapping to synthetic late in the game can cause leaks to appear, though like I said Joe is correct that every engine can benefit from the better oil. You just have to likely replace some gaskets if you want to run it. 🙂
