Hey Scotty,

I think I have a bad tensioner on the same side as everybody else (DRIVER SIDE). it only makes noise for a minute or two every once in a while. never get a check engine light and never runs bad. The truck is in great shape with 95,000 miles. So how do I diagnose that it is in fact the tensioner? and why does it only happen occasionally? Also If this is the problem, is it safe to drive for a bit while I save up the money? Thanks you.

If it only makes the noise on startups yeah you can live with it for quite some time it probably is that they might even try some engine oil flush it could be clogged up and the flush could clear it out

The noise is from the tensioners or chain guides being worn out because of lack of proper oil changes.  You can probably go for a while, but I would replace all the parts rather than have it destroy my engine.
