Hello recently the other day coming home from work my car when stepping on the gas the car sounded like the acceleration was stuck and was doing a humming sound

I turned off the car and I was able to get home in the car another time when it acted up again I simply let off the gas and lightly pressed the gas more and more then it would work my mechanic says I need to replace the transmission my question is last year I changed the fluid around march so im not sure if this time I was supposed to do it sooner the car has about 122,000-123,000 miles

What are my options in this situation? can I ask my mechanic if he can repair it or if its better to get another one?
Also if I get a used transmission how much the miles on the transmission matters?

These are well known for the "TCC solenoid" getting clogged, if the fluid is clear (aka the clutches haven't fully worn out) - try driving with a module level scan tool that can see the position of the TCC solenoid and if the problem is related to it - then you can just replace it.

I hear people saying it rips it self apart and that there are a lot of friction material related issues, especially brake bands.

But overall, I'm not familiar with this gearbox model - find someone who is (that can tell you want is the exact issue and not that "it's bad"). go to a dedicated transmission shop, I'm sure that most know how to work on Ford products.

So if you want to keep the car for a long time, maybe a proper rebuilt unit with a good warranty is the correct way to do it.

But if you want to try and save money you can try finding a junkyard unit, or try and fix the one you have - the chances of it working are IMO about 50/50 so idk, it's your choice.
