3.4L 145,000 mi automatic overheating

Changed the thermostat and burped to get air out because it wasn't blowing hot air. It would be warn after about 30 minutes of running but not hot.  After burping, the next day check engine light came on for EGR after I scanned it the light went out. Then today I started and let it run for about 15 minutes then did some errands. When I went to bank It took awhile in drive thru I didn't notice the temperature gauge but when I pulled out on road I got the warning for overheating. I stopped and turned off engine until the fan stopped running then proceeded home. If I stopped temperature would start creeping up. I haven't heard any strange noises or seen any leaks. I've been watching you for years so I know you have answers. Also I had it flushed during regular service. Please help my son he is stumped he is wondering about water pump but hopefully it's not that. Could the EGR have anything to do with the problem? That would be an easy fix   If not what? I think I have covered everything

Thank you

Are we to assume that the engine was over heaiting and then you changed the thermostat afterwards to get the story right ?

Does this engine have air bleeder screws for the coolant system? Oh yeah..yes it does...those by the thermostate and one by the water pump.

Burping isn't foolproof...here are different procedures to properly eliminate air from cooling system. https://axleaddict.com/auto-repair/How-to-Bleed-Your-Car-Cooling-System

IF it still overheats:

Pressure test cooling system.

Block tester tool uses liquid in it that changes color when combustion gases are detected in coolant.

EGR valve could be partially plugged.

Failing catalytic convertor...partially plugged. Use temperature gun to take readings along exhaust system.

At worst...3.4 common problem...Blown head gasket/warped or cracked head/cracked block.
