Hello Scotty,

I saw a video you posted a few months ago where you a viewer had a slip/bump/hard shift from 1st to 2nd gear in their VW Jetta. I have the same generation and transmission (09G I believe) and I read online it’s due to a faulty solenoid? I’m not sure how transmissions work so I don’t know how or what is going wrong with the solenoid. I’ve had my 2009 Jetta from new and it always did this, but it never got better or worse. Should I take my car to have the solenoid replaced? Even though it hasn’t gotten worse in 11 years and 80k miles, I’m worried that eventually something will go horribly wrong and my transmission will break... until then I’m babying the heck out of it to get as much life as possible!

Take the car to a professional mechanic who works on transmission and ask him to test it. He should tell you better about the situation.

I assume you don’t have any code on the dash. Take the car to a professional mechanic who works on transmission and ask him to test it with a scan tool (not just guess). Then you have a better clue what to do next.
