Hey ive been getting poor mpg on my accord no matter what...
clean maf sensor, clean throttle body, cleaned maf box, all fluids oem honda and new, mobil 5w20 oil every 5k, k&n air filter box, ngk plugs, tires new and 32psi, aligned good, mechanic said injectors are good, i use gumout pea cleaner every 6 months, only use shell gas since its the only toptier rated in canada if that matters
driving 70 city 30 highway and getting 15mpg... and its summer now not even cold. drive conservatively don't floor it. take size is 18.5 gallons / 70 liters
im just really surprised tbh, before i bought car i did an inspection, mech did compression test and everything said it was perfect
now, will getting this throtle controller worth it? is there a cheaper alternative? ive seen some chinese ones for like <100 but none are compatible for 2010 honda accord 2.4l ... if anyone in canada, could you suggest one off amazon.ca or ebay.ca? I really appreciated and just fed up with poor mpg
Try refitting your stock air box with a paper air filter & go on a 2-3hr highway trip at a constant 60mph. Check your mileage then using the tank to tank method & report back.
Did your mechanic check all your fuel trims? Is your tailpipe black (covered with soot)? Can you smell any raw gas?
Don't bother with the tuning chip. Might as well donate that money to charity & put it to good use.
the highway mpg is excellent like 28-30 mpg its just city driving that i mostly do is suffering. yea he check fuel lines and pump theyre good. no carbon on tailpipe, no gas smells in out or outside car
Do you do a lot of idling?
no
As @yaser said, check OBD2 live data. Instal your stock air box & paper filter and check your mileage again. Is the car fully stock apart from the K&N airbox & filter?
yeah fully stock other than that gonna put fresh ngk iridiux ix plugs tmrw
Check the MAF sensor reading as well. Make sure it works fine. About the throttle controller, it does not save you gas, it just changes the way you drive by adjusting the throttle response.
maf sensored already cleaned recently, should i go to mech to get injectors cleaned? i tried using gumout twice and not much difference
Not a bad idea to pressure clean the injectors. You also really do not need those cleaners you pour into gas tank. Also, if you have access to the live data, check the MAF sensor performance.
good idea. my mech has that big scanner scotty uses. what else other than maf sensor performance should i ask to check? see tranny too if its shifting too slow? also im gonna put in fresh ngk iridum ix plugs tmr instead of the ngk platinum
When was the last time you change the transmission fluid? If it is the time, change it. Less friction in the transmission might help.
all fluid changed in novemeber with honda oem: trans, coolant, brakes, power steering also new serpentine new ngk plugs new filter
Have your friend watch how you drive. Some driving habits can change the mpg drastically.
I’d say if highway mileage is good then try changing the way you drive. Don’t accelerate as fast from a stop. If your cars a manual shift at lower revs. Drive it like granny going to church Sunday for a little while see if it makes a difference. On the highway at steady speeds VTEC isn’t kicking in. If you have a heavy foot when accelerating its gonna kick in, and the more it does the more gas mileage gets horrible.
honestly i take my time coming off a stop, i let it roll as much as possible the accelerate to speed at my pace. i dont have a heavy foot, my rpms always low, i jsut drive 70 city / 30 highway tbh so thats probably why. yaser above suggested to ask mech to check computer ready of map performance, would you suggest any other live data to look for?
See if VTEC might be kicking in at lower RPM’s would be my only other suggestion. It’s a possibility. It kicks in around 2300-2500 RPM’s usually. Since your highway mileage is ok that’s the only thing I can think of. Not only does the intake valve open longer and farther but the computer has the injector shoot more fuel when it’s engaged to. If you rev it sitting still do you get any puffs black smoke out the exhaust? Have the tech look for out of range fuel mix above 2000 rpms.
Im still un fasting and furiousIng my wifes 2003 accord coupe, guy straight piped it and removed both O2 sensors. Before I put an aftermarket cat and those back on it was doing the same thing. Computer didn’t know what to do so it was guessing and dumping fuel above 2k rpm.
