Hi,
I have a 2010 Cobalt 2.2l base (107k on the clock) timing chain set replaced in Nov 22 at 95k.
Recently I've noticed the engine rattles (more of a chattering) a lot at idle and only at idle, it gets worse as the car warms up, doesn't make any noise on power. No CEL on the dash. The shop I took it to for the job denies anything wrong with the car but blames the belt tensioner for any noise, yet if there is nothing wrong why does it sound like this...
Do belt accessories even make these sounds?
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Be aware that Scotty will only view videos posted to youtube. I took a look and that is definitely not a good sound.
What you can do is temporarily remove the fan belt and see if the noise goes away. That will tell you very quickly if the source is a belt-driven accessory. (Only run the engine a very short time that way, just long enough to listen to it.)
Thanks for your response.
I removed the link and posted the video to YouTube, which is now the link. Sorry about that.
I will see about removing the belt and running it.
Thanks
Or maybe my edit didn't work. https://youtube.com/shorts/rAXv-9qmvOk
