Should I replace the engine

Hey I just wanted to ask if the 2010 2.3 L on ford rangers were reliable. I bought a truck with 126k miles that has a great maintenance record and ran great but only 4k miles later the rod broke in the motor and ill have to either rebuild it or put a used motor in. My question is, is this normal to happen or is it just a really rare case. Would it be worth it to put another motor into the truck. Thank you.

I can't think of any engine where that kind of catastrophic failure would be "normal". Sounds like it was either not actually maintained well, run low on oil, or beaten to death by previous owners.
