i have a 2010 ford fusion that just hit 180,000 miles. I bought the car a year ago from family member that had 165,000 miles on it, and they only did oil changes. my question is should i change the transmission fluid? The fluid is dark, and i do not know the history of the cars maintenance. I do not have any transmissions problems so far.

Does it smell burnt? If not, What I would do is draining the oil fluid in a clean container, measure it and add the same amount with new fluid. Keep the old fluid just in case you face any issue. Do not flush and do not change the fluid filter.
Yea, I would do a fluid and filter change only. Do not do a transmission flush. If your fluid is dark that means you have contaminates in the fluid from transmission wear, if a flush is done it can disturb those settled contaminates and cause you problems or even kill your transmission
