Looking at a 2010 Honda Insight with 200,000 miles selling for $3,200, also comes with a set of snowtires. Living in Portland Oregon, wanting it as a daily driver for my girlfriend. Would it be a good buy for her?
As a daily driver, I’m not so sure. Especially since it’s an old, high mileage, Honda hybrid.
Hybrids are usually a safe bet when brand new. And that’s for a Toyota hybrid.
For $3000, I’d look at a regular Camry/Accord or Corolla/Civic, instead.
The repairs on the hybrid system will easily exceed the value of the car, as they start to age.
The interesting thing about the 2nd generation Insight is that it can function like a regular car if the electric portion of the hybrid system fails.
At 200K it is a gamble if you will need to replace the hybrid battery or not. But hey, it will still work without it. (In theory).
If there is a non-hybrid Toyota or Honda within the same price range and mileage, the odds would be better for those cars.
At the same time, I’m intrigued by the Insight so I’d have to see if I were a gambling man at the price quoted.
Honda isn't that good at making hybrids, they break down more and are generally more expensive to repair.
Why don't you look at a Toyota Corolla or Honda Fit/Civic?
