Helo, I just bought a 2010 rav4 AWD 4 cylinders with 67000 miles. Its making a whining noise around 30 mph till 40 mph. It kinda sounds like its coming from the front. It goes away if I let go the gas pedal. Any suggestions? I read there is a bulletin on the V6. Thanks in advance.
No whining at the same RPM with the car stopped and you listening with the hood open?
If not, then I think you'll have to get the cars wheels off the ground on a lift or jack stands to see which CV, u-joint, differential or transfer case is the source.
Though I understand Scotty has some advanced microphones you can put on/under car parts to listen for gear/joint noise. I don't know if many mechanics have/know about those.
Pinpoint the noise first, but based on what you explained, odds are that the noise comes from the transmission. Have a professional transmission mechanic to check it out.
