Hi Scotty, My Honda CR-V EX, Automatic (made in Mexico :() with just over 50,000 miles and has had 5W-20 conventional motor oil put in the last three oil changes. After watching your videos I realize that I should have has 0W-20 synthetic oil used instead of the Oil Franchise Service I used. I am a quart low and cannot find 0W-20 conventional oil to get back to the correct oil level. My question is should I go ahead and replace all the oil in the engine and start using 0W-20 Synthetic Oil as I believe that is what Honda recommends. I love your videos and am a regular viewer. Thanks for your assistance.
If by "Oil Franchise Service" you mean Jiffy Lube or equivalent, stay away from those gyp joints. Not only do they try to constantly upsell you with unneeded items but they have been known to damage or even destroy peoples' cars. The 5W20 oil won't damage your engine, just use what the manufacturer calls for at the next oil change.
Thanks. I will do that.
Use what your owner's manual recommends. If you can't find it locally, you can order it online and have it shipped to you. In the mean time, top it up with 5w20 and do an oil and filter change when you get the 0w20.
Thanks. I will do that.
As everyone else said stick with what the owners manual tells you to use; the manufacturer knows a lot better about what the car needs than these franchise oil change places.
Thanks.
