2011 Mazda 3 171000kms 2.0 auto
Hey Scotty my 2011 Mazda three with 171,000 km on it I noticed a little while ago that on cold start for about half a second the engine will make a grinding type noise and when idling on cold start the idol is kind of fluttery I did scan the car and it said and that there was an issue with the mass airflow sensor and it is also subtracting a little bit of fuel could that be it?

Well a sensor will not make a grind grinding is either the starters going out you got a problem with the flywheel that the starter spins on or you have internal problem in the engine like variable valve timing camshafts
