I bought car brand new and have done my own maintenance. When oil is new it uses a quart in 2,500 miles then every 1,000 till I change it at 5k..With tips from your u tube I have slowed it down but wondered if it was worth putting a motor in. Car is solid but don't know if the little things will kill me in the next 100k..Hp fuel pump ,,,..ect..Thanks

ps ...In 1977 I worked at ford as an apprentice mechanic for about 6 months...You sure hit the nail on the head about the warranty work and who they give it to...Thanks for all your knowledge and insight!!!

I would not invest in a new engine for it. Those cars don't really go 200k to 300k without having all sorts of problems.

I'd take the money you were going to spend on a motor and use it towards a Honda or Toyota.

I would not replace the engine.  Get rid of it and get something that will last (Toyota/Honda).

I’ve got a 2011 GMC Terrain with the same engine and it’s junk. The oil consumption is horrible. I read that the 2-4L ecotec engine is notorious for this problem. I’m selling the vehicle and I’m taking Scotty’s advice: I’m buying a new Toyota CH-R crossover.
