2012 Honda Pilot hard starting and rattling when cold

Hey Scotty.  I'm a big fan and love what you do.

My wife has a 2012 Honda Pilot Touring that we bought a little over a year.  It currently has 120,000 miles with an automatic transmission.  We had a pre-purchase inspection performed on the vehicle before we bought it and the mechanic says everything looks good. However, we are now experiencing 2 issues with it:

1.  When we turn the key to start the vehicle, it cranks for 5 seconds or more before it turns over.  It also seems like the engine is straining once it does start up but it's gone in a few seconds.  We found that if we turn the key to the on position for a few seconds and then try to start the engine, it turns over as normal and seems fine.  What could be causing this?  I was thinking fuel pump and/or filter but wanted to get your advice.

2.  Also once the car starts after sitting for a while and gets cold, the engine makes a rough rattling sound until the engine heats up and then it goes away.  I'm thinking the valves need adjusting.  What do you think?

Thanks again for all that you do.

Fuel pump it's probably why it doesn't start right up turning the key on without starting it primes the pump.as for the noise pray it just needs to have adjustment because you need to just Hondas they're not automatically adjusting like hydraulic lifter engines are then pray it's that and not a worn camshaft

Most likely timing belt hydraulic tensioner if it hasn’t been replaced.

Starting issue is fuel pressure regulator.

both common to go out on these cars

do the timing belt service asap if it hasn’t been done.
