A friend was in a bad accident where she was hit in the rear. The 2012 Lexus ES 350 Car was Badly damaged in rear.

She could have been injured .

Why did the air bags in the front NOT go off. Are there No sensors in the rear?

That's a great question for the insurance investigator. I'm sure that's something they will try to determine.

Did your friend have all the recalls repaired on her Lexus?

All recalls were done. She went to dealer for most repairs,
She was hit hard.
i do not think that there are air bag sensors in the rear end.
i am trying to find out. Do most cars not have rear sensors?
Do they just rely on the seat belts for that.? thank you.

She could have been injured

But she wasn’t..

Which is why the sensors detected that the crash didn’t pose a life threatening risk to the occupants of the vehicle. It’d be tragic if your friend survived the rear end collision but then got taken out by the impact of the exploding airbag..

I am not accidentologist, but I think when you get hit from behind, you get pressed backwards into your seat.
When you impact something head-on, that's when you get slammed into the dashboard/steering wheel.
