Good evening Scotty,
My girlfriend's 2012 mazda 3 has a transmission code, "Shift time error". It runs fine and has 120k kilometers. I know during those years some of the mazdas were equipped with jatco transmissions so they were the weakest part of the vehicles. I changed the fluid in the fall and my girlfriend said it shifted a bit better. I'm changing it again in the spring (just to change most of the fluid out without doing a flush). Is there anything else I should do? And should I put some lucas when I change the fluid out again? I want the transmission to last as long as possible.
Thanks!
Which transmission does it have? The 3 came with a lot of different transmissions.
Fluid is less likely the cause of the code. More likely a valve body concern and NEVER use additives like that in a cvt
It has a 6 speed, the regular 3 has a 5 speed AT but the skyactiv has a 6 speed, so I'm not sure if it's jatco or mazda
There was no Jatco transmission for that year. There is a 5 speed auto Ford transmission and a 6 speed automatic AISIN Toyota transmission. In 2012, a new update came for the powertrain so the 6 speed auto is a Mazda Skyactiv design. But be assured there was no Jatco.
