The engine splash guard has deteriorated and is falling off, do I need to replace it or can I run without it?
Thanks
You don't really need it. They're also there to improve aerodynamics by keeping air from getting caught underneath and creating drag. Stay away from ponded water and you should be fine if you take it off.
Look in a junkyard near you with newer vehicles and see if you can find a replacement if you'd like to keep the shield. That will be much cheaper than buying the thing from a dealership.
Thanks, I had read online that the splash guard had a scoop that directly cooled the transfer case, is it that important? I should have included that in my original post
Drive without it.
