Hi Scotty,
I am Tahir, writing from Germany, I bought a used toyota rav4 2013 2.2 diesel. I recently changed the air filter, the old one was very dirty and it had a strange piece of cloth on top ( see the picture attached here : https://ibb.co/QPjtDLW )
After I put the new filter, I didn’t put that strange piece of cloth on top, the car was more noisy (and I felt that it had a bit more power, which is normal because the old filter was very dirty) but I started feeling vibration on the gas pedal, the vibration happens only when I push the gas pedal 5-10% and when I push more, I don’t feel the vibration. To troubleshoot, I put the piece of cloth back, and everything went back to normal.
Any idea why the previous mechanic would have put something like that on top of air filter ?
What should I do in this situation? Why am I having vibration when I remove that piece of cloth ?
thank you in advance!
Best,
Tahir
Well that piece of cloth is actually a pre-filter. It was designed for that. So just leave it on and change it every once in awhile when it gets dirty
Hi @scottykilmer, thank you for your answer, the new filter itself has a layer of foam, that is ok, but the piece of cloth was added on top of the filter, I have never seen something like this before, also the mechanics I have asked found it strange because it is not something that comes with the filter itself. Did you already check the picture from this link ? https://ibb.co/QPjtDLW
