My dad's truck. Maybe he shouldn't be driving anymore, at 89, but...

2014 F250 with the 6.7. Only 52,000 miles. Checked its dipstick a month ago and it's up to the full mark but it's black. The oil change sticker said it's ready for its next oil change at 55,000 miles. Had a dealer oil change not too long ago. I went to WalMart and bought 15 quarts of Mobil One diesel, and Motorcraft filter ($120), and volunteered to prematurely change it for him for free.

He said No and it has a check engine light anyway. He'll take it back to his favorite Ford dealer and have them service it. Checked it today and its oil is STILL black. Has a new sticker that says next oil change at 57,000 miles.

Did they change that oil or did they just change the filter? I have a John Deere diesel that had an oil change a year ago. Its oil is golden. Is diesel oil supposed to look black immediately sometimes?

change the oil, stop going to that crooked dealer and get a diagnostic scan.

It always turns black over time, it keeps the oil suspended in the solution as you drive. It doesn't change colors right away. Take it to someone else, or change it yourself to make sure you to it right. I change mine every 5,000 miles, or every year, depending on how I drive. If you drive it seldomly, once a year is fine. It's simple to do, change it for your dad.
