Hi Scotty. My Kia Rio has 202k miles now and I started to pay even more attention to the engine because I wanna keep it for years.
I noticed some rattling noise lately, specially when I put new oil. I’m using since the car has 170k miles a 5w 30 oil instead of the 5w 20 recommended. There is also some leak. The car is working normally. I drive over 160 miles a day. Sometimes more. I used to drive around 300 miles a day in 2018 and 2019. Is there any precautions I should take since the mileage is high? I took this video a few days ago before an oil change: https://youtu.be/UI-lWETCHu0

This is the live data I ran a few days ago: https://youtu.be/aX5YNub1-1Q

Could you tell us why you chose a thicker oil instead of using the recommended one?

@yaser
Hi! Since the car has 200k, hi thought that it would be better for the engine. Should I stick with the recommended oil and switch to a high mileage full synthetic?

If you don’t have any issue with the car, just do what you have done so far. I don’t think changing oil type is good for engine. With that said, you are doing fine.

@tiagoshade
100% agree with yaser and don't even switch to high mileage if everything is good and no changes are going on with the vehicle.

Looks like a super clean engine bay and engines like clean air. Its not like you were running it in a sandstorm for 200k kms. Might switch to a high mileage oil and maybe add a oil stabilizer like Lucas to quiet down the lifters.... but it looks like you are maintaining it well so it will probably run fine for quite some time 🙂

@cjbman
Hi. Thanks! I’ll try that and come back with results.
