I’m pretty seriously considering purchasing a used 2014 scion xB with 51k miles on it. But some research reveals that it uses the 2.4L 2AZ engine that was burning oil in the 07-09 Camry’s. Is this okay to buy? Did they eventually fix the oil burning problem in these engines?

If it uses the same engine, you may have oil burning problem. Check with a Toyota dealer to see if they fix it for you for free.
If you like this types of car, consider buying a Honda Element. They are practically bullet proof specially with manual transmission.
