I found a 2014 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid at a Good price online, has 100,000 miles. I checked VIN number no Recalls and has a clean title
Should I buy it?
No 9-year-old hybrid is a good buy unless you're prepared to shell out $5000 for a new battery in the near future and possibly an equal amount to replace or repair other parts of the hybrid system.
I second @chucktobias on avoiding old hybrids.
For the Crosstrek in particular, the hybrid never made sense even new. The hybrid system added cost and complexity, but gave only slight improvements in acceleration and MPG. The base CT is pretty efficient as it is without the hybrid. I got the feeling that Subaru just did it to burnish their “green” credentials.
Im a big fan of the Crosstrek, but unless you really want that bile green color, I’d stay away from the hybrid.
Happy Thanksgiving!
